At a press conference held on 19 November 2018, organised by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order and hosted by the Cyprus Academy of Public Administration, MIGS launched a training manual on gender mainstreaming for the public sector. Susana Pavlou, MIGS Director and Josie Christodoulou, Policy Coordinator presented the manual as well as the related training programme to be implemented in 2019 through the Cyprus Academy of Public Administration.
MIGS won the tender procedure in 2017 to draft a guide in the form of training manual on gender mainstreaming for the public sector for the Ministry of Justice and Public Order within the framework of the National Action Plan for Equality between Women and Men 2014-2017.
MIGS drafted the training manual based on robust desk research, which includes a historical overview of gender mainstreaming, definitions, key steps to be followed for the implementation of gender mainstreaming, as well as a detailed description of the tools to be used for the horizontal implementation of gender mainstreaming in public policy formulation and implementation.
The training manual also includes promising practices from different countries as well as concrete examples and case studies that can be used by different ministries and departments.
As part of this assignment, MIGS also drafted a methodology for training workshops targeting key public sector employees on gender mainstreaming and budgeting.
Representatives of the office of the Commissioner for Gender Equality, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, the Gender Equality Committee in Employment and Vocational Training, the Cyprus Academy of Public Administration, and the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights also took part in the process.
The training manual on gender mainstreaming for the public sector, which is available here, will be used as a learning and training tool for the public sector and more specifically for officers who are designing public policies within Cyprus ministries and governmental departments.
