The Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (MIGS) announces the official launch of the digital platform PHAROS (www.pharos.cy), which brings together in one unified and easily accessible space information on legal rights, support services, and available resources for women experiencing gender-based and domestic violence in the Republic of Cyprus.
The platform – available in English and in Greek – was created to address a significant gap and to strengthen the right of women experiencing violence to access information, as established under Laws 115(I)/2021, 117(I)/2016, and Article 13 of the Istanbul Convention. Access to information remains challenging, particularly in situations of crisis and increased vulnerability.
The PHAROS platform serves as an information tool covering:
- Legal rights and procedures within the justice system
- State and non-state support services
- Information on relevant authorities and referral services
As part of the PHAROS project, informational material has been developed, including a short video of approximately 60 seconds aimed at raising public awareness and improving access to information.
Prior to its official launch, the platform was piloted and evaluated by women who are experiencing or have experienced violence, individuals from their immediate environment, and frontline professionals. Their feedback has been incorporated into the platform’s final design.
MIGS invites organizations, professionals, and the wider public to explore and share the PHAROS platform so that it can reach every woman who may need it.
The PHAROS project is implemented within the framework of the PREVENT programme by the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies. PREVENT is co-funded by the European Union through the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme, the Bodossaki Foundation, and the NGO Support Centre, with a total grant amount of €2.3 million. PREVENT is coordinated by the Bodossaki Foundation (Greece), in partnership with the NGO Support Centre (Cyprus).
