On the 16 June 2015, Cyprus signed the Convention of the European Commission for Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence. In order to facilitate ratification of the Convention in Cyprus, MIGS has carried out a study to examine compliance of national standards, legislation and policy with the standards of the Convention, making specific recommendations for the adoption of specific legislative and other measures. The study was commissioned by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order and provides a valuable tool that will facilitate the process of ratification, by providing a blue-print for comprehensive legislation on violence against women in Cyprus. The aim is to promote an integrated approach to preventing and combating violence against women in Cyprus, with the active involvement of all relevant stakeholders including women’s organisations and NGOs.
